Blog #04: Where you been?
Quiet on the western front.
31 March, 2025
Hi, hello!
I feel super dumb straight up stating that I just haven't had time since the last blog to post. It's either work or I'm simply brainrotting away online. Old habits die hard, so I'm trying out creativity again, and writing is what I can do.
Treat this blog as a media thread, I'll talk up what I've been up to.
Yeevs released a new EP and played a few shows, namely Midnight Special and Crowbar in Sydney. The EP is titled Thereabouts, The Borderline - a companion release to Yeevs' 2024 album The Borderline, Thereabouts.
We had the idea of recording a live session, as fans of the NPR Tiny Desk Concerts it made sense to revisit a few new tracks and one old in the vein of our demoing process - the main difference is Tom using the keyboard and a drum machine. The bass isn't all that different, for a live home recording the sessions came out great. As did the live videos, recorded using iPhones.
The Moderate Themes have played quite a few shows at Lazy Thinking. We're gearing up for recording an album this year. Been rehearsing. Could put a photo up. See how I go.
I finished Wario Land 4, been drafting an article that honestly just had too much fat. I'd written about everything Mario Land into Wario Land, simply too much. I feel the space should be left free to discuss the level theming, power up/down scheme, a sweet bastardisation of Wario Land, Super Metroid, Gunstar Heroes and more. My short notes version is here on Backloggd. Maybe I'll finish the piece and exhalt Wario Land 4 as an all time great... because it'll be featured on my website.
Tonne of time spent playing the new Sonic game, Rumble. It's a Fall Guy clone but... yeah you guessed it Sonic. I probably whooped a tonne of bots mixed with 5 other people with too much time on their hands.
Found a 25 inch Sony Trinitron on the sidewalk 5 doors from my house. I've been logging some hours into Chibi-Robo, which is like a story 3D platformer instead of the usual action-platformers fare.
I'm reading again, wasting my time with a dumb Blade Runner sequel novel - Blade Runner 2: The Edge of Human. Did you know there was actually a sixth replicant? Yeah, it's sorta like the White Power Ranger, is he a new dude, or a pre-existing guy in a sweet ass suit. Maybe Deckard is the sixth replicant but he doesn't know it? Edge of Human was seriously considered for a screen play. It goes hard utilising a scant cast to carry on both Blade Runner and the original Do Androids Dream Of Electric Sheep? I'd say the weakest part is how they tone down John Isidore, he should be weak, dumb, and tortured.
I have a copy of Blade Runner 3: Replicant Night on the book shelf, maybe it'll make it to the night stand when I wrap up The Edge of Human.
I'm having a hard time considering what else to discuss, don't read my Letterboxd for opinions on greats such as Terminator 3 (hope you love cranes), Mission: Impossible III (RIP Philip Seymour Hoffman)... the new Gundam movie GQuuuuuuX was pretty sweet though.
Maybe I'll do these blogs once a month, just to capture a snapshot of my media intake. Maybe I'll also try to write funnier reviews on my other microblog websites. Cya in April.
