Blog #01 2025

It's been two weeks since working seriously on Neocities, let us reflect on the last week
7 Jan, 2025

Hi, it's been just over two weeks since I committed seriously to posting on Neocities instead of re-starting a Wordpress, Substack or whatever. It's been rewarding creating my own webpage and reformating a lot of posts, in these weekly blog columns I plan on writing about this.

Firstly, a lot of the stress of using Neocities is probably html and css. I've taken a shortcut and used petrapixel's layout generator as a starting point. I'm still experimenting with the formating, like in this post I've used a thinner main section and formatted the title.

There are other layout generators I experimented with, on this list here!, I'd recommend creating a new folder and working with non-consequential pages - avoid using your INDEX page if possible. I deleted my front page maybe 20 times trying to get a theme to work the way I wanted.

I'm still fiddling around with it and are likely to change this theme, like maybe a left sidebar is better than right? Perhaps I should have a background image instead of a colour? Time will tell, it's all a perpetual WIP. I figure my archived posts can use an older theme if I did update the look beyond an easy transition.

Speaking of WIP, I am gradually uploading my old articles to the archives over here. The main motivator is receiving news that passwords had leaked to a few blogs, and a lot of my ideas are scattered around the internet but not collected together in the one place. I wrote a lot about local Sydney music, some gaming, a friend ran a blog and I contributed there, just a lot of reasons to collect them together.

This brings me to today, I have so many ideas. But realistically only finite time to do them here. I'm on break at work and it's easy to overcommit now and regret it later when everything is running. So far I'm compiling lists of games and albums to listen to that have anniversaries this year. Or I could focus on newly created forms? My day to day routine? It's hard to focus on one idea and commit to it fully. I'll figure it out in due time. Thanks for reading!.
